Australian Sikh Heritage Trail - Adenia Park

This place has been developed by Canning City in Perth WA. This site was first used by Sikh migrants as a Cemetery where first Sikh was consigned to flames as per their tradition which was against the local laws. It was in 1929 that Cremation law was passed in 1929 and this place was recognised as Sikhs cemetery. It was in 1932 that two Sikhs were granted 1/2 acre of land for their community cremation . Now Sikh heritage day is observed on First Saturday of March every year to remember Flt Lt Manmohan Singh of Imperial Air Force whose fighter Aircraft crashed in 1942 during W.W. II near BROOME W.A. Today it was observed with participation by Japanese and Chinese drummer groups along with Punjabi students cultural programme.

A lot of history here. Very well represented and ethically commemorated. Quite relevant for the Sikh community who can find a sense of belonging in WA.

Interesting history, well designed memorial, lovely setting. Well worth a visit if you are interested in local history or just want a nice place for a picnic. There's a nice children's playground nearby.

Arrive just as the sun is coming up for a beautiful walk seeing all the water birds start their day.
